My name is Michael Laws and I am a qualified careers coach. I hold a postgraduate diploma from Canterbury Christchurch University in careers advice and guidance and I have more than twenty years’ experience working in this specialised field.
I’ve supported and coached both business clients and private individuals and, whilst working in the recruitment industry, helped people to find the right job at the right time,. I’ve taught them the skills needed to ensure successful outcomes, navigating them through the recruitment process itself and mentoring them to ensure they are confident when being interviewed.
I started my career in the City and then changed direction to focus on recruitment in the financial sector. After this success, my motivation was to be able to support others in their career aspirations and I qualified as a careers coach. From financial services I progressed to working within the education and not for profit sectors as a freelance consultant. This enabled me to work with numerous organisations sourcing their staff, using my employability skills and recruitment knowledge, delivering many successful outcomes.
Throughout my career, I have helped many people develop a strong and focused CV, supported people to create well written application forms with striking personal statements; both essential for initial interview selection. It is, of course not just about the quality of the written word, there’s the hurdle of the interview itself, a recognised challenge for many people, borne out by the question asked of me many times, “could you go for me instead?” – Sadly not!
I am accomplished at helping people reach their full potential at interview. This
includes how to present themselves in a winning light and how to overcome the obstacles and concerns that impact performance, including nerves which can be a significant struggle for individuals. I help look at why and what any underlying issues might be as well as work with people by coaching and practising interview
techniques to overcome poor performance on the day.
I have lots of experience and success at coaching people, facilitating them to move forward to help them maximise their potential in their working lives. I’m sure I can do the same for you whether it’s face to face, via phone or video link – I work in whichever way you prefer.
My aim as careers coach is to provide a cost effective, highly practical service whether it’s a new CV, some job search focus or a tailored coaching and employability skills based
